Due to the spike of COVID-19 cases once again, the Inter-Agency Task Force of Emerging Infectious Diseases(IATF) signed a resolution on April 14 that has placed 26 areas around the country under Alert Level 2 until April 30.
Included in the list of areas under Alert Level 2 is North Cotabato along with Benguet, Ifugao, Quezon Province, Palawan, Camarines Norte, Masbate, Antique, Negros Occidental, Bohol, Cebu Province, Negros Oriental, Leyte, Western Samar, Lanao del Norte, Davao de Oro, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Occidental, Sarangani, Sultan Kudarat, Dinagat Islands, Basilan, and Maguindanao.
Under such conditions, the following areas must observe in their establishments and activities a maximum of 50% indoor venue capacity for fully vaccinated individuals and those below 18 years of age, even if unvaccinated, and 70% outdoor venue capacity.
With the increase of COVID-19 cases in North Cotabato, the students from the University of Southern Mindanao cannot hide their concerns if the worst situation would push to the online setup of instruction.
In an interview with Mintech, Kenneth John Bayog, a fourth-year BSCE student, said that it worries him if there will be a sudden shift from face-to-face classes to online learning.
“Though dili na siya new na problema, mag worry gihapon ko kay basi’g there will be a sudden shifting of face-to-face classes into what we had before na blended and pure online class,” Bayog said.
Also, he underscored that the shift will be a piece of bad news to the graduating students.
“And basi’g online na ang graduation ng graduating class, it will sadden those na mga candidates,” he added.
Meanwhile, Angela Bandiola, a first-year BEED student, stated that online class is not preferable for her.
“Mas prefer ko ang face-to-face kaysa online class. Wala ko may natun-an tong modular,” Bandiola shared.
Moreover, amidst the increase in COVID-19 cases, the Department of Health (DOH) reminded those who are still unvaccinated, unboosted, or under-boosted to get vaccinated against COVID-19.
As the country moves to recover from its losses and as the economy persists to revitalize, we feel that COVID-19 seems to slowly fade away from the picture.
However, the same infectious disease knocks on our doors again. Thus, we must be wary of our actions to avoid further loss. Get vaccinated, wear your mask, and observe proper sanitization.
