Three innovators from the University of Southern Mindanao (USM)—two students and an alumnus—took the national stage as they presented their winning startup concepts during the National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) 2025 held in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte.
Department of Science and Technology (DOST) scholars Nystee Margotte Diaz, Rose Octaviano, and alumnus Rico John Gorieza showcased their projects before national audiences, joining exhibitors and presenters from various institutions across the country.
The group featured their work in two major NSTW events: the Human Well-Being Exhibit at the Centennial Arena and the Technology Fora Parallel Sessions at Northwestern University. All three presenters are products of the regional Scholars Technopreneurship Training Program (STTP) of the DOST-Science Education Institute (SEI).
Their startup teams—PhotoSynth and BayawTech Agri Solutions—earned top finishes in the regional STTP competition, securing champion and second runner-up awards, respectively.
The National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) is the DOST’s annual flagship event that showcases the country’s latest innovations, research breakthroughs, and community-impact technologies.
Held in partnership with local institutions, NSTW 2025 brought together scientists, scholars, innovators, and the public to celebrate science-driven solutions addressing national and global challenges.
