Kabacan, Cotabato – Key officials from Cotabato State University (CotSU) Resource Generation Office visited the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) on February 26, 2025, for a benchmarking activity focused on enhancing their knowledge of forage crop cultivation, advanced farming practices, and agricultural sustainability.
The delegation was headed by the Executive Assistant for the Vice President for Research, Extension and Develeopment for Resource Generation (VPREDRG) Raffeq S. Alim, PhD, along with Shaharonie J. Usman, LPT, MAEd, the Resource Generation Director; Dr. Mohamidin L. Datu, CSU-Agri Farm Manager; Bahiya A. Kid, CSU-Fishpond Manager; and Norhayrisha A. Datu, Agri Farm Secretary. The visit explored USM’s agricultural resources to support CotSU’s plans to establish livestock production.
Accompanied by ESO staff, during the tour, the delegation visited several key agricultural sites. Dr. Mary Joy S. Cañolas, an expert in forage crops, facilitated the visit to the forage crop area. The team also explored USM’s food processing facilities, including the High-Value Crops Food Processing Center, the Corn Integrated Office, the Philippine Carabao Center (PCC), the University of Southern Mindanao Agricultural Research and Development Center (USMARDC), and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Mindanao Freshwater Fisheries Technology Center (MFFTC). Senior Science Research Specialist Janice M. Bangoy served as a resource person during the USMARDC visit.
During the roundtable discussion at the USMARDC Administration Building, USMARDC Director Dr. Jurhamid C. Imlan expressed his support for collaborative efforts and further emphasized the importance of strengthening partnerships.
“Willing naman [kami] umalalay sa inyo… We can assist and monitor, as well as provide initial planting materials [for the establishment of forage crops],” he stated.
“Alhamdulillah, mabuti na nandito kayo—mas lumalawak [ang] network natin.” he added.
The benchmarking activity fostered collaboration and knowledge exchange, supporting CotSU’s initiatives to enhance its agricultural programs and promote sustainable livestock production.
