As part of the 21st Founding Anniversary Celebration, the College of Health Sciences (CHS) of the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) gathered its graduates for an Alumni Homecoming 2025 on February 28, 2025, at the USM Commercial Building, USM, Kabacan, Cotabato.

In an interview, Dr. Thaddeus Averilla, the Dean of the College of Health Sciences (CHS), explained that the decision of having an alumni homecoming activity was in response to a challenge identified within the college.

The alumni is an integral part of an educational institution. To those who attended, thank you for traveling near and far. Your attendance is a testament of your love and concern for the college. To those who did not attend yet, please attendnext year, and support the newly elected officers. Come back to your family.” He remarked.

Furthermore, Cristela Marie Marasigan-Pelarco, RN, RM, an alumna of CHS, fondly recalled the days when they held classes under the trees as part of the first batch of BS Nursing students. She shared that these early experiences, along with her later role as a clinical instructor at CHS, were some of her most unforgettable memories. Currently, Pelarco is an Associate Professor at Sultan Kudarat State University (SKSU).

While speaking with UPRIO, Dr. Jessie Francis Kiell Dismas, an alumnus of the college, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to reconnect with his friends, thirteen years after graduation. Dr. Dismas currently serves as a resident doctor at the Alamada Provincial Community Hospital, Alamada, Cotabato.

The Alumni Regent, Dr. Paul John B. Ongcoy along with the Executive Assistant for Alumni Affairs, Dr. Donnie M. Tulud were present in the occasion.

Inspired by its theme “CHS THROUGH THE YEARS: Honoring our past, celebrating our present, embracing our future,” the alumni homecoming aims to elect officers for CHS Alumni Association who will play a role in supporting and advancing the college’s projects and activities.
