The University of Southern Mindanao (USM) has once again earned a place on the international stage after being included in the 2025 World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI). This marks the second consecutive year that USM has been recognized for its innovative approaches to education, research, and community engagement.
WURI, a global ranking system that highlights forward-thinking institutions, announced the results during in July 2025. The rankings emphasized real-world impact and creativity rather than traditional academic measures.
This year, USM ranked 61st under Student Mobility and Openness. USM’s back-to-back recognition reflects its continuous efforts to drive meaningful change through relevant programs and services.
In 2024, USM ranked 50th globally under WURI’s “Crisis Management” category. The recognition stemmed from the university’s initiatives that addressed pressing societal issues, including disaster response, health education, and climate resilience.
University President Dr. Jonald L. Pimentel expressed pride in USM’s continued global recognition, stating that the achievement is a dedication of the university community to creating solutions that matter. He emphasized that USM is committed to pursue innovations that directly benefit students and communities across the region.
With its back-to-back placement in the WURI rankings, USM strengthens its position not only as a premier higher education institution in Mindanao but also as an emerging global player in innovation-driven development.
