One of the two main holidays of the Islamic calendar is Eid al-Fitr. It occurs at the end of Ramadhan which can be translated from Arabic as the “Festival of Breaking Fast.”

This moment is an opportunity for Muslims to gather with their loved ones and to thank Allah (SWT) for their fortitude and patience throughout the month of Ramadan. It is a happy period for introspection and spiritual development.

One of the five pillars of Islam is the obligation to fast during the month of Ramadan. This commandment requires a lot of endurance and diligence to fulfill. The holiday of Eid al-Fitr is a time to honor everyone’s sacrifices during this holy month.

Moreover, the Eid prayers do not have an audible call to prayer. Muslims will congregate at mosques or open areas and perform two “Rakat” prayers. A sermon is delivered by the imam after the prayers, during which he prays for peace, kindness, and forgiveness for all the living things on Earth.

It’s also a chance to thank Allah (SWT) for giving us Ramadan โ€” a time when good acts are multiplied and sins are covered.

During Eid’l Fitr, Muslims assemble with their family members and friends, present toys and gifts to youngsters, prepare and enjoy special meals, participate in special morning prayers, embrace one another formally, and wish each other “Eid Mubarak,” or “Have a blessed Eid.”

Lastly, as our Muslim brothers and sisters celebrate Eid, we also express our gratitude for the blessings which have graced our lives. On this day, we extend our compassion and our generosity to our brothers and sisters in faith, and to humanity as a whole.
