Day of Valor
April 24, 2023International Day of Street Children
April 24, 2023One in every five women and one in every 13 men are reported to have been sexually abused as a child aged 0-17 years, based on the data released by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2022, while the Philippines records about 7,000,000 sexually abused children every year. These were often committed by people they trust mostly from their homes. Moreover, only 3 out of 10 children are knowledgeable of the services that they may avail.
These data are just the tip of the iceberg as qualified authorities cannot account for every single case considering the inherent incapability of a child to stand up for himself/herself against sexual abuse and the inherent culture of shame to speak up about incest.
Today, April 11, we raise awareness, tie people together, and bring change as we observe the As Filipino citizen, the things that we can do against it is to read and be knowledgeable, raise awareness, and start petitions. Our single action can save a child and collectively we can create a safe community for our children to live in.
