From Olongapo to Monkayo, Award-Winning Filmmakers to Face Off in 10th Lantaw

In an unprecedented style, five award-winning short films will compete against each other, and five more, for the top prize in the 10th Lantaw Short Film Festival this Friday, January 27.

These five films are among the top 10 official in-competition selection this year with directors from Olongapo, Davao, Kidapawan, Saudi, and Monkayo.

“𝘛𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘯” is a film directed by Francis Lester Solano Lacambra of Salakot Productions. Based in Olongapo City, Lacambra is no longer a newbie in film competitions. “Tabon” was an official selection in CineSambal Independent Film Festival in Zambales.

“𝘕𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘤” directed by Rodel Artiaga, Jr, is a film from Kalakbay Pictures in cooperation with Buntod Films Production of Monkayo, Davao de Oro. Artiaga’s “Naboc” was also shortlisted as finalist in Cine De Oro 2022 Film Festival; official selection main competition category in Mindanao Film Festival 2022; and winner in Nabifilmex Film Festival 2022.

“𝘛𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘺”, a film directed by Arenz Gil Brizuela of Creative Collab Prod, is truly a product of collaborative efforts among vloggers in Kidapawan City. They are also the makers behind the winning film in KaPelikula SOCCSKSARGEN Film Making Contest 2022 entitled “Coffee Is”.

“𝘚𝘰𝘳𝘳𝘺, 𝘐 𝘋𝘪𝘥𝘯’𝘵 𝘔𝘦𝘢𝘯 𝘛𝘰 𝘗𝘳𝘺” is directed by Jermaine Tulbo of 98 Pixels. Lantaw is already the film’s third festival. It was shortlisted as an official selection last year in 20th Mindanao Film Festival 2022 and Binisaya Film Festival 2022. Tulbo who hails from Davao is a film student from Meridian International College in Taguig.

“𝘔𝘶𝘫𝘢𝘩𝘪𝘥” is directed by Abdulmojaimen Talib of Adbul.Avenue and Hashims Production. Originally from Patadon, Talib is currently based in Saudi Arabia. But before leaving the Philippines, he has already joined Lantaw five times. His film entry in 2010 “The Thief” won the first ever Best Short Film award.

Lantaw this year will witness a clash of award-winning filmmakers from different film festivals here and abroad.

“This is such an exciting opportunity for all the avid supporters of Lantaw Short Film Festival. Having all these excellent filmmakers in Lantaw, the USM community does not have to travel and spend more just to watch quality short films directed by young and talented filmmakers,” said Lantaw Executive Director and founder Prof. Lloyd Anton Von Colita.

Ten films, in total, will be competing this Friday, January 27 for the annual Lantaw Short Film Festival. Gates will open at 12:00 noon, while the screening proper begins at 1:00 pm.
