Enhance and manage IP asset of patentable technologies generated from research for IP registration and commercialization and promote intellectual property awareness among the research community
Vision
The University of Southern Mindanao Intellectual Property Technology Licensing Office (IPTLO) is envisioned to sustain intellectual property asset and ensure transfer of technologies to its end users through commercialization.
About IPTBM
This office originated from the DOST- PCAARRD funded project- Revitalizing Intellectual Property and Technology Business Management (IPTBM) in University of Southern Mindanao” from July 2018- December 2020. The project provided training, mentorship and different capacitation modes for intellectual property management and technology commercialization pursuant to RA 8392 (Intellectual property Code of the Philippines) and RA 10055 (Technology Transfer Act of the Philippines). This paved way to consolidated University’s IP asset, BOR approved USM IP Policy with Tech Transfer Protocol, promotional activities, Utility Model-based awards and DOST- approved “Fairness Opinion Report”. To continue IP management and technology commercialization activities in the University, an office must then be institutionalized in the University. It is high time to place USM in the forefront of research, innovation and commercialization, hence the establishment of the IPTLO office.
The IPTLO Office is established to fulfill the role of the University of Southern Mindanao pursuant to Republic Act No. 10055 or the Act providing the framework and support system for the ownership, management, use and commercialization of intellectual property generated from research and development funded by government and for other purposes. It is the primary goal of the office to sustain IP management system of the University and to provide a venue for enhancement of intellectual property and technology commercialization activities from University-based researches through the establishment of IP-TL Office.
USM IPTLO is hereby established to satisfy the “USM Quality Policy Statement”, which states that the University shall (4) spearhead need-based research outputs for commercialization, publication and patenting and to develop technology for food security, climate change mitigation, and the improvement of quality of life; and, (5) facilitate technology transfer generated from research to the community for sustainable development.
