University of Southern Mindanao has deployed some USM personnel particularly from the USM Hospital to man the various checkpoints set-up while the enhanced community quarantine is now being implemented in the entire province following the outbreak of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

“Together with the Kabacan LGU, we can fight COVID-19. This act of volunteerism is part of USM’s social responsibility to Kabacan and the community especially in this time of health crisis,” said USM President Dr. Francisco Gil N. Garcia.

The orientation, meeting, and formal turn-over for deployment was held on April 2, 2020 led by USM President Garcia, HRMDO Director Engr. Willie Jones B. Saliling, Kabacan LGU Mayor Herlo Guzman, and MDRRM Officer David Don Saure and Sandy Renie.

The province has been placed under enhanced community quarantine through Executive Order No. 54 series of 2020 issued by Cotabato Governor Nancy Catamco. USM President also extended the suspension of classes and other school-related activities until April 30, 2020 through Memorandum No. 075 signed by President Garcia.

The deployment of USM personnel in different checkpoints is to augment in the effort of the local government especially in controlling the spread of the disease in Kabacan.

As of April 16, 2020, the province has recorded a total of cases of 128 persons under monitoring, 37 persons under investigation, and 3 confirmed cases where 1 has recovered and 2 are awaiting for the repeat test.
