USM Prepares for Phase II of SWK-Funded Project
April 25, 2025
Kabacan, Cotabato–With a heart for service and a commitment to the community, members of the Local Student Government (LSG) and Junior Philippine Economics Society (JPES) of the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) – College of Business, Development, Economics, and Management (CBDEM) conducted a community outreach program on April 25, 2025, at the CBDEM building.
In partnership with College Extension Coordinator Analyn A. Gonzales, the initiative provided food packs—including rice, noodles, canned goods, and coffee—to 50 tricycle drivers serving the USM community.

In an interview, Mechaellah Medrano, one of the JPES organizational officers, emphasized the significance of recognizing those who support the university behind the scenes.
“These tricycle drivers are part of our daily lives. They help transport students and staff safely, and this is our way of giving back,” Medrano said.
Florence M. Ledama, one of the CBDEM LSG leaders, echoed a similar view.
“This may be a simple gesture, but it means a lot to those who receive it. It’s our way of giving back to people who consistently support the university,” Ledama added.
One of the university tricycle drivers, Bohari Olipaen, expressed his gratitude to the student leaders who organized the program.
“Sobrang masaya ako dahil nakatanggap kami ng relief goods at nagpapasalamat din po kami [sa mga taga CBDEM LSG at JPES],” Olipaen stated.
The theme of the event, “Community Outreach Network: Nurturing, Educating, Connecting,” highlighted the power of small acts of gratitude in strengthening community ties.
