The University of Southern Mindanao (USM) welcomed the National Quality Assessment Team (NQAT) for the first time this year as they conducted an evaluation of the university’s Bachelor of Science in Microbiology program on March 20, 2025, at the Graduate School Accreditation Room, USM, Kabacan, Cotabato.

During the visit, NQAT members, including Dr. Cherrie Melanie Ancheta-Diego, Dr. Liezle B. Coronica, Engr. Jhan Jkem B. Fontanilla, Dr. Thomas Dela Cruz, Mr. John Paul Dela Cruz, and Dr. Windell Rivera, had in-depth discussions with university officials and faculty members. They also inspected laboratory equipment and reviewed institutional documents to check if the program follows national guidelines.

The assessment aimed to ensure that the program meets national academic and industry standards. Experts from various institutions reviewed key areas such as curriculum development, faculty credentials, laboratory facilities, and student skills.

Dr. Philip Lester P. Benjamin, the Dean of the College of Science and Mathematics, emphasized that the evaluation is a chance to show the university’s dedication to academic excellence and continuous improvement in its microbiology program. He pointed out USM’s efforts to improve its curriculum, upgrade facilities, and align training with industry standards to prepare students for global opportunities.

Facilitated by the University Quality Assurance Office (UQAO), the result of the evaluation will play a crucial role in shaping future developments for the microbiology program and will ensure that graduates are well-equipped for careers in research, healthcare, and biotechnology.

After the evaluation, the NQAT Team also visited the USM President for a courtesy call.
