The University of Southern Mindanao (USM) held its 47th Recognition Program on March 13, 2025 at the University Auditorium, USM, Kabacan, Cotabato, honoring students for their academic achievements.
3rd District Representative of Cotabato, Cong. Samantha Taliño Santos served as the guest of honor and speaker. She delivered a speech emphasizing perseverance, education, and responsible leadership.
In her address, Cong. Santos acknowledged the challenges students faced in their academic journey. “You have endured sleepless nights, met deadlines, and balanced multiple responsibilities. Today is a testament to your hard work and determination,” she stated.
She reminded the students that education goes beyond grades and awards, underscoring the importance of resilience, lifelong learning, and ethical responsibility. “Success is not just about academic excellence. It is about the lessons learned, the relationships built, and the perseverance developed through challenges,” shenoted.
She also highlighted today’s digital era where misinformation spreads easily, she urged the students to use their knowledge wisely. “Be critical thinkers, ask the right questions, and stand for truth. The world needs individuals who are not only skilled but also principled and responsible,” she advised.
Cong. Santos also acknowledged the invaluable role of educators, families, and friends in shaping the future of the students. “The knowledge that you have shared to them will live on as your lasting legacy – one that cannot be taken away. You have left the footprints in each student, and you should take pride in having helped shaped them. When they achieve success in life, know that you are a part of that accomplishment,” she said.
She also quoted Dr. Jose Rizal’s line, reminding everyone of the youth’s potential to shape the future.
“Sana huwag tayong magsawang paniwalaan ang sinabi ng ating pambansang bayani ‘Ang kabataan ang pag-asa ng bayan.’ Huwag tayong mawalan ng pag-asa sa ating mga kabataan.”
She concluded her speech with a message of encouragement: “You are the pride of Cotabato. Carry this achievement with humility and confidence. The future holds many opportunities, and I have no doubt that you will rise to meet them.” The event concluded with a celebration of student accomplishments, recognizing their efforts and inspiring them to pursue their future endeavors with determination and integrity.
