Manuel A. Lisondra, a 4th year BS Applied Mathematics student, once again topped the list of academic scholars during the 47th Recognition Program of the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) on March 13, 2024 at the University Auditorium, USM, Kabacan, Cotabato.

He earned the General Weighted Average (GWA) of 1.088 for the second semester of the Academic Year 2023-2024, and 1.136  GWA for first semester of AY. 2024-2025.

In an interview, Lisondra revealed that there wasn’t a particular motivation behind his success as a two-time rank 1 achiever.

“I don’t think I have motivation [in particular], but I challenge myself most of the time. I believe, it is where I have grown as a person. Again, for me, the true measurement of success is how we move the finish line and see what’s more from there,” He underscored.

Additionally, the two-time rank 1 achiever shared that he loves what he does and strives to maintain a balanced life. Above all his academic achievement, Lisondra remains to be socially engaged.

Akala ng mga tao, wala na akong social life, but I have a healthy social life. I thank my friends for that,” He said.

When asked of his message for his fellow students, he suggested to love their craft as he believes this passion was key to his recent achievement. He also advised them to be humble and listen to mentors as they are the valuable guide in achieving goals in life. He extended his apprecciation to the faculty members of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, as well as the whole College of Science and Mathematics (CSM).

He also left a message  for those who were not yet included on the list of scholars.

“Kung feeling nila yun na lang talaga yung limitations nila, they have to push for more. There should be no ending. Proper mindset will help you throughout your journey,” He ended.

Lisondra, a resident of Cotabato City, is one of the 2,645 academic scholars honored during the recognition program and will receive the academic incentives in a few days.
