Kabacan, Cotabato – The University of Southern Mindanao Extension Services Office (USM-ESO) along with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources XII (BFAR XII), co-facilitated trainings on Tilapia and Hito Grow-Out Culture in Ponds and Feed Formulation, at the BFAR Mindanao Freshwater Fisheries Technology Center (MFFTC) Function Room, on February 27, 2025.

Twenty-five participants from the Barangay Salapungan Fisherfolks Integrated Framers Association, attended the event.

Aquaculture Technicians from the Provincial Office of Fishery, Macapagal A. Ali and Arnold M. Monteverde, facilitated discussions on Tilapia and Hito Grow-Out Culture in Ponds, respectively. In the afternoon session, Bensar S. Ola, Fishery Regulations Officer I, delivered a lecture on Feed Formulation.

Provincial Fishery Officer Joseph Albert B. Uluan emphasized the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources’ (BFAR) commitment to supporting fish farmers through technical training.

“Isa itong mandato ng BFAR – ang mag-conduct ng mga technical capability building sa mga interesadong matuto sa pag-aalaga ng mga isda,” Uluan stated.

Representing USM’s Extension Services Office (ESO), Training Specialist II Ritchel Torres, expressed the university’s readiness to provide further training support.

“Kung kailangan ninyo ng mga trainings, kami sa USM, may mga experts kami na pwedeng i-tap para mag-conduct,” Torres said.

The event aimed to enhance participants’ knowledge and skills in sustainable aquaculture practices, supporting local fish farmers in boosting productivity.
