The University of Southern Mindanao (USM) served as the venue for the 24th Philippine National Chemistry Olympiad (PNCO) Regional Eliminations, held at the College of Science and Mathematics (CSM) on February 15, 2025.

The competition brought together 40 students from 14 high schools across Region XII, all vying for a spot in the national stage.

Participants underwent a rigorous examination that tested knowledge, analytical skills, and problem-solving abilities in chemistry. After a highly competitive selection process, the top 10 contestants were recognized for their outstanding performance. Among them, the top five will advance to represent the SOCCSKSARGEN Chapter in the Philippine National Chemistry Olympiad 2025. Their performance at the national level could also earn them a place in the prestigious International Chemistry Olympiad, scheduled for July 5–14, 2025, in the United Arab Emirates.

Adding inspiration to the event, USM alumna Ms. Hannah Daphne B. Presto, RCh served as the guest speaker, sharing her experiences and encouraging the young chemists to pursue excellence in the field.

The PNCO Regional Eliminations not only showcased the exceptional talents of young scientists but also reinforced the country’s commitment to fostering future innovators. The competition continues to serve as a vital platform for academic excellence, inspiring students to explore careers in chemistry and scientific research.
