Kabacan, Cotabato – The Lake Sebu Tourism Office visited the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) to benchmark best practices in tourism management, research, and extension on February 26, 2025. The visit aimed to strengthen the tourism industry in South Cotabato by exploring innovative approaches to documentation, cultural preservation, and environmental sustainability.

Dr. Jennifer B. Tupas, Municipal Tourism Officer of Lake Sebu, led the visiting team. The Extension Services Office (ESO) facilitated the visit, introducing ongoing projects focused on documenting local literature and culture, as well as potential studies on environmental stability and exploration. The discussion also covered the schedule for an upcoming environmental scanning initiative.

Dr. Glyn Magbanua, Director of the Extension Services Office, led the session, alongside the faculty members from the College of Human Ecology and Food Sciences (CHEFS) Tourism Management Department.

The visit concluded with a tour of the University of Southern Mindanao Agricultural Research and Development Center (USMARDC).

The benchmarking activity provided Lake Sebu officials with valuable insights into USM’s research methodologies and extension programs, fostering collaboration to enhance tourism development and environmental sustainability initiatives in South Cotabato.
