One hundred (100) selected USM students received bicycles from the Provincial Government of Cotabato headed by Governor Emmylou “Lala” Taliño Mendoza and third district representative, Congresswoman Maria Alana Samantha T. Santos, on January 23, 2024, at the USM Commercial building, USM, Kabacan, Cotabato.

The bicycle units are expected to aid the students by providing a form of transportation that is free, sustainable, and efficient.

“Take care of these… and make these [bikes] as your inspiration” Gov. Mendoza remarked as she reminded the students to take the chance to maintain good academics standings while on their journey in college.

In addition, Kabacan Mayor Evangeline Pascua Guzman expressed appreciation to the Provincial Government for prioritizing the municipality of Kabacan, particularly USM, in terms of carrying out projects, scholarships, and better opportunities for the students.

Tayo, napakapalad po natin. Sa dinami-daming pwedeng mahatagan dire sa USM, Kamo lang ang napagbigyan ng pagkakataon.” Mayor Guzman added.

The beneficiaries of the bicycles were selected by the Office of Students Affairs (OSA) with good academic standing and indigency as part of the selection process. To ensure and maintain the good quality of the bicycles, OSA director Prof. Ma. Leida M. Donque, assured the monitoring of the units at the end of the semesters as well as the beneficiaries’ grades.

Together with the governor were Vice Mayor Ralph Ryan “Rap-rap” Rafael, Board Member (BM) Ivy Dalumpines Ballitoc, BM Karen Michie De Guzman, and representatives from the Cotabato Province. Also, USM 4 Vice Presidents, USG president, the OSA director, and students participated in the activity.
