ESO Kicks Off 2025 Projects with Inception Meeting
January 21, 2025The University of Southern Mindanao (USM) received funding for four research and development (R&D) projects during the awarding ceremony held as part of the 6th Bangsamoro Anniversary celebration, organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) on January 20, 2025, at the Bangsamoro Government Center, Cotabato City.
USM was awarded a total of Php 7,337,620.85 to support the following projects:
- Isolation of Lactic Acid Bacteria from Job’s Tears (Coix Lacryma-jobi) and Two Forages and Their Utilization as Inoculant in Silage Production for Halal Ruminant Feed by Josephine R. Migalbin, PhD.
- Preserving Maguindanaon Traditional Music Through Learning Packages, Digital Apps, and IEC Materials by Debbie Marie B. Verzosa, PhD.
- Utilization of Microorganisms Isolated from Ligawasan Marsh in Sustainable Agriculture and Fish and Animal Production by Maria Elena N. Tanabe, PhD.
- Intensification of Sheep Production for Commercialization of Halal Mutton-Based Products for Emergencies by Jurhamid C. Imlan, PhD.
The awarding ceremony was led by MOST’s Management Committee, which included Minister Engr. Aida M. Silongan, PhD; Deputy Minister Prof. Hashim Manticayan; RDS Director II Nasrodin A. Buisan; and TMOS Director II Nasrodin U. Buisan. The initiative highlighted MOST’s commitment to fostering socio-economic growth in the Bangsamoro Region through the integration of science, technology, and innovation.
Other recipients of R&D funding included Cotabato State University, Upi Agricultural School, and the Institute of Bangsamoro Studies.
The ceremony also included other key activities, such as the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MOUs) and awarding of scholarships. By being part of this prestigious event, USM once again demonstrated its commitment to collaborating with MOST and other stakeholders to create sustainable and inclusive growth through research and innovation.
