The University of Southern Mindanao (USM) warmly welcomed 27 students from the University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) for an educational tour on November 21-22, 2024. The group included 21 Agronomy and 6 Entomology major students, accompanied by their faculty members, Catherine C. Quisado and Jerald Anthony C. Esteban.

This immersive experience was aimed at enhancing their practical knowledge and skills in addressing postharvest insect pests, structural pests, crop improvement, and sustainable agricultural practices.

On their 2-day tour, the students were introduced to USM’s Science and Technology (S&T) research facilities, where they explored various biology and entomology laboratories conducting innovative insect experimentation and research. They also visited several other key areas on campus, including the College of Agriculture (CA), PhilRice Demonstration Farm, USM Orchard, Philippine Carabao Center (PCC), Biotech Laboratory, and the Animal Science Department.

The tour was facilitated by USM’s Extension Services Office (ESO), led by Director Glyn G. Magbanua, PhD. Joining the welcoming team were Training Specialist Ritchel O. Torres and Dr. Elorde Jr. Simpron Crispolon, who ensured that the visitors had a meaningful and informative experience.

The two-day tour showcased USM’s commitment to fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing between institutions, inspiring future agricultural leaders to pursue excellence in research and sustainable practices.
