As part of the 3rd RDE Techno Forum, the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) conducted a three-day Literary Arts Innovation Workshop on September 25, 2024 at the USM Extension Services Office (ESO) Conference Room. This workshop was designed not only to deepen participants’ understanding and appreciation of literature but also to hone their skills in writing across various literary genres.

To make this event possible, six resource speakers shared their expertise, including multi-awarded poet Gerald Galindez, Sir Norsalim S. Haron, and writers from the Cotabato Literature Circle (CLC): Sir Kevin Ray V. Abesamis, Ms. Claribel Amor M. Juromay, Ms. Jemima M. Atok, and Sir Benjie C. Martinez.

“As an alumni of this school, it feels like the perfect homecoming. Ma’am Magbanua and Ma’am Uyangurin were two of my teachers who really molded me into who I am today… It’s a perfect homecoming for me, and the participants were filled with enthusiasm,” expressed by Sir Gerald.

On the first day of the workshop, 32 students from different USM colleges and the USM Laboratory School participated and joined engaging activities under the lectures of Sir Galindez, Ms. Atok, and Sir Abesamis. It is anticipated that these participants will become equipped to join writing competitions in their preferred genres, such as creative non-fiction, flash fiction, and poetry.
