To embrace the innovations and advancement of technology, the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) commenced the celebration of the 3rd RDE Techno Forum spearheaded by Dr. Debbie Marie B. Verzosa, Vice President of RDE on September 25, 2024 at the USM Commercial Building, Kabacan, Cotabato.

“This event promises to showcase the research outputs that we have here in our university so that we can better engage with the community and all of you can see the vibrancy of the Research, Development and Extension unit of our university,” Dr. Verzosa said in her opening remarks.

A total of 17 exhibitors from different organizations, partner agencies of USM, and students were present and showcased their innovations and products, most of which were the result of their research.

“This is the first time that we join this kind of event, and we’re thankful because this is our chance to introduce our product,” said Janry P. Saladores, an Agriculturist student, whose innovation is named “Palapa Shroom”.

This event was graced by USM dignitaries namely: USM President Francisco Gil N. Garcia, USM Vice Presidents Dr. Eimer M. Estilloso, Prof. Marcos F. Monderin, and Dr. Samsudin S. Panday; and two members of the Board of Regents: Dr. Jonald L. Pimentel, President of the Faculty Association; and Paul John P. Ongcoy, President of the Alumni Association.

In President Garcia’s message, he emphasized the importance of technology as the main source of development.

“Now is the time to harness this power, the power of technology, the power of AI for the good of all, whether in the classroom, in the field, or in our daily lives,” he said.

“Let us work together using these advancements to uplift and support each other, making the world a better place for generations to come,” he added.

Before his speech ended, he challenged the University to make its research outputs accessible to farmers and help uplift their status. Guided by this wisdom, the RDE Unit will continue its tradition of organizing a Farmers’ Field Day. This year, it will be held on September 27, 2024 at 8:00 am at the USM Agricultural Research and Development Center (USMARDC). This will immediately be followed by a farm tour.

The celebration will continue until September 30, 2024, with different engaging activities and lectures scheduled to take place.
