The University of Southern Mindanao (USM) through USM President Francisco Gil N. Garcia, PhD, and the 10th Field Artillery Battalion (Rolling Thunder) through LTC Mark C. Espiritu ARC (GSC) PA, signed a partnership agreement on August 28, 2024, at the Multipurpose Hall of 10FAB, Camp Lucero, Carmen, Cotabato.

The partnership agreement contains the commitment of both parties to conducting community-based initiatives and programs that benefit both organizations and the broader community within the operational area of USM and 10th FAB.

In his message, President Garcia expressed his delight for the partnership as the 10th FAB officials reassured that their military operations contribute to good governance, sustainable development, social justice, and human security. 

“Sa inyo lang po namin inoffer ang one-hour radio program for free, at additional skills training. Kami rin po ay nagpapasalamat sa inyo sa pagbigay ng chance sa USM upang makapagserbisyo kami sa inyo, at kayo sa amin. Para sa kabutihan ng Pilipinas, maganda itong gagawin nating partnership.” He emphasized. 

Further, Commanding Officer Espiritu highlighted that the 10th FAB is highly interested in signing a partnership with USM, not only for the national interest in defense but also for ecological balance and services to the people in the area. 

“We make sure na kung saang lugar kami nandoon, we can contribute on the best way we can.” He underscored. 

Along with President Garcia were Prof. Marcos F. Monderin, VP for Academic Affairs; Ronielyn F. Pinsoy, EdD, the USM-Kidapawan City Campus Chancellor; Glyn G. Magbanua, PhD, the Extension Services Office (ESO) Director; Prof. Vilma M. Santos, the University Public Relations and Information Office (UPRIO) Director; Shiela Bautista, the USM KCC Planning Officer, Prof. Bonifacio C. Solsoloy, the National Service Training Program (NSTP) Director, and Joel S. Misanes, PhD, the Reserved Officer Training Corps (ROTC) Head.
