The StatSelect app of the University of Southern Mindanao clinched the Best Scientific Product award at the CHED SUC Fair held at KCC Mall de Zamboanga in Zamboanga City on July 11, 2024.
The recognition was part of the Mi Casita: Innovation Exhibit and Demonstration that featured the Best Agri-Food Product and Best Educational Product awards.
Developed through a 2023 research project funded by the University of Southern Mindanao, the StatSelect app addresses the critical need to assist students and researchers in selecting appropriate statistical tools for their studies. It provides guidance to prevent the misuse of statistical methods due to inadequate understanding of data requirements. In addition to suggesting tools, StatSelect offers tutorials and data interpretation templates, particularly benefiting users with limited statistical knowledge.
The app was developed by the USM Department of Mathematics and Statistics under the leadership of Anna Jean Garcia, with contributions from a dedicated team including Roel Valentin, Jonald Pimentel, PhD, Daryl Mae Mamon, Honey Vincent Valle, Leonard Paleta, PhD, Rowel Madio, Debbie Marie Versoza, PhD, Leorence Tandog PhD, Philip Lester Benjamin PhD, and Jupiter Pilongo.
