Dr. Lowela Siarot-Onggo, a Balik scientist of Philippine Genome Center (PGC) Mindanao, delivered a lecture on gene expression and insights and techniques on reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) analysis on June 19, 2024, at USM CA Annex, USM, Kabacan, Cotabato. Dr. Onggo, a research fellow at Trinity College Dublin in Dublin, Ireland, is an expert in molecular biology, virology, and antiviral drug discovery.

Fifty faculty members and students from the College of Science and Mathematics and the College of Agriculture, specifically those with interest in teaching molecular biology, microbiology, agriculture, biotechnology, and genetics, participated in the lecture.

The lecture by Dr. Onggo was followed by information sessions delivered by Dr. Joel Hassan G. Tolentino, PGC Mindanao OIC Director, and Diadem R. Ricarte-Junior Research Analyst- Omics Laboratory Services Division. Dr. Tolentino discussed the history and activities conducted by the PGC Mindanao while Ms. Ricarte shared the services and trainings offered by their institution.
