The University of Southern Mindanao celebrated the 25th Gawad Parangal 2024 held at the USM Auditorium, USM, Kabacan, Cotabato on May 21, 2024, where John Ryan Fernandez, a 4th-year student of Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, was named Outstanding Student of the Year.

In an interview, Fernandez expressed his thanks to his family, the Mindanao Tech, Political Science Society, USM, OSA, and his friends for the support he received from them in getting the award. He shared that it was his dedication that made him win the award.

It [MOSY Award] speaks a lot of the efforts I made from first year to fourth year. The award serves as validation of all the hard work rendered, the nights spent, and the efforts. Kung baga sa puno pa, ito na yung naging bunga sa lahat ng [aking] dinaanang hirap.” He emphasized.

During the ceremony, USM President Dr. Francisco Gil N. Garcia graced the event as the guest of honor and speaker. In his message, he inspired the students to continue winning life by setting themselves as a good example to others, to take every opportunity, and to enjoy moments in life with family and friends.

Meanwhile, Dr. Maria Leida M.
