As a follow-up on the previous meetings recently conducted, 5 State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) that are members of the Regional Futures Thinking Consortium of Region XII met through a Workshop on Harmonization of Halal Research and Development and Region XII Futures initiative on March 7, 2024 at the Commercial Building, USM, Kabacan, Cotabato.

Composed of the University of Southern Mindanao (USM), South Cotabato State College (SCSC), Sultan Kudarat State University (SKSU), Cotabato Foundation College of Science and Technology (CFCST), and Cotabato State University (CotSU), the representatives presented the status of their initiatives and R&D activities concerning halal. 

In the afternoon, the Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) identified their niches in crops, livestock, aquaculture, fertilizers, and feeds. Further, Dr. Edward A. Barlaan, the USM Futures Thinking Project leader, positioned the halal futures direction and conceptualization of proposals as a summary of the meeting.

The meeting was spearheaded by SOCCSKSARGEN Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development Consortium (SOXAARRDEC), with its director, Dr. Josephine R. Migalbin.
