|CENCOM collaborates with BLGUs thru ARISE e-Barangay|

The University of Southern Mindanao, through the AppRopriate Infrastructure Support for Empowerment (ARISE), collaborated with the Barangay Local Government Units (BLGUs) to improve governance through ICT.
This extension project was conceptualized by Mr. Eugene G. Ranjo, project leader; Ms. Elizabeth R. Genotiva, component leader for Computer Learning Barangay Officials. Leader; and Engr. Willie Jones B. Saliling, component leader for Participatory Mapping and Geovisualization.
It was assumed that if barangay officials would appreciate the functionality of computers, they would be encouraged to participate in the government’s transparency drive through the web. Improved internet connectivity would allow barangay transactions to be present in the “cloud”. Meanwhile, the mapping of resources could be facilitated and uploaded in the digital
With good digital resource, barangay stakeholders would be better equipped in the land use planning. Improved geovisualization could also be enhanced planning of resources. External stakeholders would be able to visualize the development directions of the barangays, thus, barangay governments could easily “sell” their ideas to possible funders.
